Featured Band: Redgap

In under their first two years of existence, RedGap made a big impact on the Manx music scene.

The band – which consists of core members Barry and Val Nelson plus Joanna Callister, formed to play the Big Wheel Blue Festival on the Isle of Man back in 2008.

They went on to headline the Lancaster Music Festival 2009 and the Canary Islands Festival in La Gomera in Jan 2010.

Well seasons musicians, they toured Cornwall in Easter 2010 and completed a Nationwide UK Spring Tour with CMEAS Artists in May 2010.

They impressively supported China Crisis & also Spandau Ballet at the IOM Bay Festival on June 19th 2010.

In another positive light – RedGap were also selected to receive a Promotional Package from Deuce Management & Promotions, London.

Other gigs the band achieved to get under their belts were the Big Wheel Blues Festival in 2010 and 2011 in the IOM. In 2011 they were one of the headlining bands at the Garden Party Festival supporting Gigmann friend Davy Knowles who got up and played with the band before his headline slot.

The band consider themselves, Acoustic Soul/Latin Pop supporting acoustic and electric guitars, bass, percussion and four-part melodic harmony vocals.

RedGap like to session in guitarists and percussion players to augment their sound. Past sessionists include:

  • Allesandro Spadoni, guitar
  • Adam Cubbon, Guitar
  • Lee Meier, guitar
  • Hannah Layhe, Drums & percussion and currently they session Aaron Roberts on percussion.

Surrounding themselves with an impressive list of musicians they could call on at any time was a canny concept.

Their last album, Call of The Wild, was released in 2012 and covers many genres.

The band are currently on a rest but may well come back when least expected. With such a flexible set up and access to a plethora of brilliant musicians…Redgap are the sort of band that can last a lifetime.Classic.
